The Ubuntu version number comes from the year and month of the release. The latest version was released in April 2010, so its version number is 10.04 LTS. The latest 10.04 release of Ubuntu, code named "Lucid Lynx", is a special “long term support” (LTS) release which will be supported for an extended period on both desktops and servers.
